Red algae – Asparagopsis :
- Contains bromoform which is toxic to mammals and destroys the ozone layer.
Bromoform
- Carcinogenic and it should not being fed to animals. It also destroys the ozone layer.
3-NOP:
- Is volatile at room temperature; expensive and needs to be fed to livestock daily.
Nitrate:
- Is toxic to animals and when fed to animals, it increases nitrogen excretion and N2O emissions.
Essential oils:
- Have a negative effect on animal intake and its effectiveness in decreasing CH4 emission is questionable.
